CRYOTHERAPY: What it is. Where it works

Whole body cryotherapy is the exposure of your skin to temperatures of -238º to -274º  Fahrenheit for a short time (3 minutes or less). At this extreme temperature, your heart pumps more blood into your body, which activates several mechanisms that have significant long-term medical and cosmetic benefits:

Skin:  Your outer skin is briefly ‘frozen’, activating increased production of collagen in deeper layers of the skin. It regains elasticity and becomes smoother and even-toned, significantly improving conditions such as cellulite and skin aging. Toxins and other stored deposits are flushed out of the layers of your skin and blood flow is improved after several treatments. The anti-inflammatory properties of cryotherapy are also used to treat chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis and dermatitis.

Endocrine System: (what’s the American way of saying this?)   The extreme cold exposure causes your body to turn up its metabolic rate that produces heat. This effect lasts for 5-8 hours after the procedure, causing your body to ‘burn’ 500–800 calories over the hours following the procedure. After several treatments, the increase in metabolic rate tends to last longer between visits. Another ‘survival reaction’ to the extreme temperatures is the release of endorphins (hormones) that have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, and improve mood disorders. Cryotherapy has been studied for the successful treatment of medication-resistant depressive disorders. Patients have experienced a noticeable increase in libido after cryotherapy, for ED and other sexual disorders.

Muscles & Bones:  The anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of cryotherapy can drastically improve joint disorders such as rheumatoid-? and osteoarthritis. Athletes use whole body cryotherapy to recover from injuries and improve their performance.

Cryotherapy: improves the immune system –which provides resistance to infections and toxins. It also decreases stress levels. Immune System:

THE PROCESS

You step inside a completely open chamber and within seconds your body is surrounded by a gentle flow of hyper cooled air created by liquid nitrogen. Temperatures quickly drop to -250ºF, as your body’s cold sensors signal blood to rush to your core. Toxins are flushed as your blood is enriched with oxygen, enzymes and rich nutrients.

Three minutes to lasting results After 2-1/2 to 3 minutes, your session ends and the oxygenated and enriched blood rushes through your body accelerating the natural recovery process. You’ll feel a sense of exhilaration with the release of endorphins and the production of collagen as your metabolic rate increases—burning up to 800 calories.

Inflammation replaced with rejuvenation Your recovery time is shortened, as your energy level increases and endorphin release aids your body in dealing with pain and inflammation. As your metabolic rate increases, your body burns more calories and collagen production improves whole body skin elasticity and smoothness. You’ll look as good as you feel.

FAQ

Q:  Will the cold hurt me, or my skin?

A:  No. It’s a dry cold that is certainly brisk, but not painful.
You can step out at any time.

Q:  Are there any health risks?

A:  No. If your blood pressure (pre therapy) is too high, you won’t be allowed to receive cryotherapy.

Q:  How long will it take me to warm up?

A:  Usually, it’s almost immediate relief. But we provide thick, warm robes and exercise equipment if you want to get your “motor running.”

Q:  How will I feel after? How long will it last?

A:  All people are different, but most feel an instant tingling and revitalization of skin and body. Much like stepping indoors after a brisk walk on a cold day. It can last for a few minutes, hours or a day or two.

Q:  That was amazing, how soon can I come back?

A:  We’d love to see you in as soon as three days. Many people enjoy cryotherapy 2-3 times a week. All year long.
